FY2015 JIPA Annual General Meeting

On May 29, 2015, JIPA Annual General Meeting was held at the Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo. After the opening address by Mr. Takemoto, JIPA president, the FY2014 financial & business statements and the FY2015 Budget & Action Plan, as annually conducted, as well as reelection of board members added from this fiscal year in line with the incorporation of the Association were discussed and fully approved. The Action Plan of this fiscal year advocates the global IP promotion activities of JIPA which feature "Competition" and "Collaboration" while taking into consideration issues on the "diversity" of IP systems under the slogan of "Creating IP Vision for the World."

After the above approval proceeding, Prof. Toshiya WATANABE from UTokyo Policy Alternatives Research Institute gave a special lecture titled "Role of IP human resources of the global competitive age and expectations on JIPA."

During the break time, the first board meeting was held in a separate room, and new board members including President, Managing Directors, and Chairperson and Vice Chairpersons were established. After the above special lecture, the new board members were introduced by the new President, Mr. Masahiro KAMEI (Fujitsu).
The new Chairperson, Mr. Toshikazu TANAKA (Mitsui Chemicals), new Vice-Chairpersons, Mr. Takahisa SORI (Mazda Motor) and Toshimoto MITOMO (Sony) addressed the audience.

In the awards ceremony, 8 people in total of training contributors and general contributors were honored with testimonials and special gifts from the new Chairperson, and Mr. Kenji KAWAMOTO (Calsonic Kansei) gave a speech on behalf of the award winners.

Finally, Mr. Ito, JPO Commissioner as a guest, expressed his appreciation for JIPA's continued cooperation along with a brief description of how the discussion of the employee invention system proceeded in a committee of the House of Representatives and what JPO would promote in the future.

In the party after the meeting, we had the honor of the presence of JPO officials including Mr. Ito, JPO Commissioner, Mr. Shitara, Chief Judge of the IP High Court and Mr. Iimura, ex-Chief Judge of the IP High Court. We, including the new Chairperson and Vice Chairpersons, talked with them.
