Opinion Exchange Meeting with the IPO
On Nov. 5, 2015, at the Tokyo office, JIPA held an opinion/information exchange meeting with the Asia Committee in the US Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO). The Asia Committee of IPO goes around to Japan and China as part of visits to IP-related organizations and the visit to JIPA is the first visit since 2008. The meeting had a total of 34 participants: 23 members from IPO including Mr. Mark Lauroesch, Executive Director, and 11 members from JIPA including Mr. Suzuki, Vice President, Mr. Kuji, Executive Director, Mr. Miyashita, International Policy Project Leader.
In the meeting, presentations were made on an overview and future issues of the duties invention system of Japan revised this fiscal year, efforts for patent system harmonization, situations of research and studies by JIPA on the description requirements examined by the five major Patent Offices (Japan, US, EP, China, and Korea), legal reform of trade secret protection in the United States and Japan, with lively questions and answers on each theme.
