Opinion Exchange with MyIPO Deputy DG Abdul Aziz Bin Ismail
On September 6, 2016, Mr. Abdul Aziz Bin Ismail, Deputy Director General of the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), accompanied by other MyIPO staff, visited JETRO Tokyo. JIPA members held a meeting with them to share their views. From JIPA, a 8 members from the Asia PJ, the Industrial Design Committee, and the Trademark Committee took in the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Sano (Sumitomo Electric Industries), a Managing Director of JIPA., gave an explanation of JIPA's activities in general. Following this, a staff member from JIPA secretariat Mr. Hori explained the activities related to Malaysia that JIPA has recently carried out and expressed their gratitude for MyIPO's hospitality during the JIPA delegation's visit in 2015. After that, Mr. Aziz presented an explanation of MyIPO's activities and made a request for JIPA's cooperation in the implementation of IP education in Malaysia.
During the free discussion session, MyIPO gave a clear explanation of its views on various topics that are attracting a great deal of interest from Japanese companies, such as "Free browsing service official gazettes," "Introduction of a partial design system," and "Status of preparation for Malaysia's accession to the Madrid Protocol."
At the closing of the meeting, JIPA presented an outline of its training mission to ASEAN scheduled to be sent in November and received a commitment from MyIPO to timely respond to inquiries and cooperate with the mission. Thus, the meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere.
