Opinion Exchange with IP Experts from UK
On March 14, 2017, Mr. Tony Rollins, President, and Mr. Richard Mair, of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA), Mr. Richard Goddard of the Chartered Institute of Trade mark Attorneys (CITMA), Mr. Andy Bartlett of the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO), and Judge Richard Hacon of the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC) visited the JIPA Tokyo office. With them, JIPA held an information/opinion exchange meeting in which 9 JIPA members participated, including Mr. Suzuki, Managing Director, Mr. Kato, Managing Director, Ms. Miyashita, PJ leader, and Mr. Yoshioka, Chairperson of the 2nd International Committee.
We discussed a wide range of topics including the impact of Brexit on IP business. Comments by Judge Hacon himself on the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC) newly established
in 2013 deepened our understanding of the system of IP litigation in the UK.
A lively session of questions and answers lasted longer than scheduled.
