International Activities
Mr. Lapierre, DG of French Patent Office visits JIPA
On Oct. 28, 2015, 3 members from the French Patent Office including Mr. Lapierre, Director General of INPI, visited JIPA. JIPA held an opinion/information
exchange meeting with them in which Mr. Tanaka, Chairman (Mitsui Chemicals), Mr. Kamei, President (Fujitsu), Mr. Ito, Managing Director (Mitsui Chemicals),
Mr. Yoshioka, Chairman of the International Second Committee (NEC), and 3 other people participated from JIPA.
The French Patent Office introduced recent intensive activities of the French Patent Office such as procedures via the Internet, creation of patent/trademark
portfolios, IP education, IP valuation, and international cooperation. In contrast, JIPA introduced the history, organization, membership structure, project
activities, expert committee activities, human resource development activities, opinion delivery, etc. of JIPA. The French Patent Office stated that the person
at the top of a company never becomes president of any French IP organization, and they showed interest in the activities of JIPA and asked questions about the
human resource development activities, etc.
The exchange of opinions included lively discussions on matters in which the both were interested such as trade secret, fakes using the Internet, impact of a
broad agreement of TPP, and geographical indications and trademarks. In addition, the visitors told us that a climate change conference would be held in France
in December this year and also have IP-related discussions.
Finally, the both promised to continue to actively promote exchanges.
