In Mumbai, it was agreed on at the meetings with JETRO IPG that we and Indian IPGs would share information and cooperate with each
other and submit requests to the Indian Government and agencies as "Team JAPAN".
And JIPA submitted a list of delayed trademark examination cases gathered from JIPA member companies to the India Patent Office
and asked for acceleration of examination. Further, the delegation asked establishment and publication of Trademark Examination
Guidelines. The delegation also made a discussion about the associated trademark system and asked for improvement therein.
At the Mumbai Customs, the delegation conducted interviews about the recent situation of suspension as well as the progress
of photo sending upon suspension and ICEGATE improvement, which were requested during the last year visit.
The delegation made a discussion with patent firm attorneys in Mumbai about our current issues on the trademark and design examination
system and practice thereof in India. In particular, the delegation asked about the actual condition of the trademark accelerated
examination system and the partial design and received detailed answers.
EIPR Pvt. Ltd, a company supporting counterfeit goods inspection, outlined their inspection business as well as counterfeit goods
distribution channels in India, and the delegation was able to understand that EIPR is a company that Japanese companies can rely
on when they make counterfeit goods detection/inspection in India.
After moving to Kolkata, the delegation made a discussion about a search system and partial design in the Kolkata Patent Office. The delegation understood that there was a plant to construct a search system, and was given an explanation of the actual condition of the examination of partial design by a senior examiner. And the delegation made a discussion with patent attorneys in Kolkata about the trademark and design examination system and practice thereof as in Mumbai. Further, ITAG Business Solutions Ltd. explained some specific cases performed by ITAG on the patent data search, investigation performed at the time of technology transfer, etc. and thereby the delegation understood the business form of Knowledge Process Outsourcing. ITAG also explained that abundance of human resources, improved quality of business in recent years, and low cost are features in India.
Overseas dispatches including training group to India JIPA count six in total during the three years from fiscal 2011, and exchanges of the IP information as well as people-to-people exchanges have been enhanced.
