The 10th JIPA IP Symposium Report
The 10th JIPA IP Symposium was held at TOKYO International Forum on Febuary 3rd, 2011, gathering over 800 people. Under prospects of the current Japanese economic recovery, this year¡Çs symposium was rebuiled up a daylong event from a halfday¡Çs event of the 9th JIPA IP Symposium. And the theme was titled ¡ÆInnovation Expanding Intellectual Property¡Çs Horizon – IP management & strategy in the new age of the global market¡Ç¡Ç, business persons who are operating their business in the world participated as panelists and made discussions.In the keynote discussion titled ¡ÆBusiness Strategy & Prospect Corresponding to Changes of Economic Environments¡Ç, Ms. Endo (DIAMOND,Inc) who was a moderator cordinated discussions among three companies¡Ç board members from YKK, TOTO, and SUNTORY. They disicussed on a relationship between business sterategy and IP about each company. Also, they posed a message with expectations to members of IP divition.
In the Panel discussion I, ¡ÆTechology for Climate Change & IP¡Ç¡Ç was picked up as a hot issue. Panelists, who belong to a grobal company, intordused cases of their technology transfers in overseas, and Mr. Kuji, who is a cordinater as a representative for JIPA, presented WIPO¡ÝGreen Project working with WIPO. And METI (Ministry of Economic Trade and Industry )¡Çs panelist reported a current situation of COP16.
And in the Panel discussion II, ¡ÆIP sterategies in overseas companies¡Ç was picked up as a topic based on the past questionnaire. Panelists concerned with advanced company in the intellectual property fields were invited from Europe, US, and India. And earnest discussions especially on ¡ÆOpen Inovetion¡Ç was developed under the coordination of Prf. Ogawa (Tokyo University).
And the Poster Session was held by standing committees for reporting their activities. This year, ¡ÆThe Best Poster Award¡Ç was newly made. Therefore, high quality posters were displayed more than an average year. In the Best Poster Awards, the IP Management Committee and the Publication & Public Affairs Committee got the first prize with tied scores, and the 1st License committee ranked third prize. In addition, next symposium is scheduled on Febuary 24th, 2012 at TOKYO International Forum.
