JIPA delegation to India and UAE
The 10- member-representative delegation led by Mr. Koyama of CASIO visited India and UAE, to have meetings with IP institutions from November. 24 to 30, 2008
JIPA has sent delegations to India for the third successive year based on questioner date from our member companies. On the other hand, it was the first time JIPA has dispatched a delegation to UAE because the country gathered attention with its recent rapid economic growth and its counterfeits distribution network.
In India, the team visited Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Delhi High court, Delhi Patent office, and Lexorbis IP Practice to exchange opinions. Especially, CII’s activities, such as committees system, IP training system, IP management supporting system, yearly events and so on, seemed to be similar to those of JIPA’s.
At the Delhi High Court, Judge A. K. Sikri and Judge Manmohan Singh explained Indian IP court procedures after they sat in on an IP trial. They had a discussion at the Delhi Patent Office on our requests and questions along with above questioner.
In UAE, they visited Dubai customs, Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property Law Firm, and IP & Trademark sections in UAE economic department. It’s hard to gather UAE’s IP information in Japan. Such situation made them asked UAE organizations many questions. Arab’s all institutions answered each question respectfully. Through these meetings, it is found that UAE organizations also have interest in Japanese IP system.
This 2008 IP tour, visiting the South Asia’s huge country which has uncountable long history and Arab 37-year-old country which prosper by oil money, made the delegation members reconsider what “a desirable IP system” means.
